Crash barrier is a structure at the edge or on the median strip of the road. The purpose of a crash barrier is to avoid vehicles running off the road or entering the opposing carriageway of traffic.

Roadside objects such as electrical substations, overpass pillars, utility poles, etc., are also protected with crash barriers.

Crash barriers are also used in car parks to protect building structures and delimit the area.
